The Effects of Resistance Training and Protein Supplementation

on Body Composition, Muscular Strength, and Physical Function in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Patients

Led by Dr Chris Schlattinger and Dr Mike Ormsbee , Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine at Florida State University

This study is investigating the effects of resistance training and protein supplementation (Whey Isolate) in post operative TAVR patients. A previous investigation found that pre procedural low muscle mass was not changed by TAVR over 6 months post procedure with exercise, however protein consumption was below the recommended dietary allowance (RDA; 0.8g/kg/d). The study design investigated resistance training (RT) alone or combined with increased protein intake, with Whey Isolate supplementation, and assessment of changes in muscle mass, strength, and physical function in this population.
